ENROLLMENT TIPS

• Check your Degree Audit or MyUCLA (Academics → Academic Profile → Holds) to see if you have any holds on your record that will prevent enrollment, and take steps to remove the hold now.
• You may enroll in up to 19 units per quarter. You may enroll in up to 10 units during priority/first pass, and the remaining units in your second pass.
  • Use your first pass to enroll in courses that are in high demand, required, or are likely to fill quickly, such as core courses, labs, foreign language, and popular GEs.
  • Use Class Planner to see create potential schedules and enroll.
  • When selecting classes, please be sure to check how they will be offered. There are 3 types of online classes: Online, Online – Recorded, and Online – Asynchronous. Please note that “Online” classes are not recorded. You can use the Search Criteria function to search for specific modes if your schedule requires it.
    • Online: Classes will be held at scheduled times with faculty delivering course content using remote communication tools and students in attendance using those tools. Faculty will not record the class.
    • Online – Recorded: Classes will be held at scheduled times with faculty delivering course content using remote communication tools and with students in attendance using those tools. Faculty will record the class and make available those scheduled activities for subsequent use by students. However, students should be aware that faculty may still request their participation during scheduled meeting times.
    • Online – Asynchronous: With the exception of office hours or review sections, there are no pre-scheduled sessions for this class. Lectures and all class content will be available online.
    • If you are not automatically eligible, you may submit a petition requesting excess units during the first week of the quarter.
    • Please check MyUCLA to see how many units you have been granted before submitting a petition.
    • If you are currently in a pre-major, check your Degree Audit to see if you are eligible to be admitted to the major and/or consult with your department. Please note that some courses are restricted to students in the major, so if you are still in the pre-major, you are not eligible until you are admitted into the major itself, or the restriction is removed. Some majors only allow admission at specific times of the year or through specific processes, so be sure you are aware of any restrictions and procedures for declaring the major.
    • Note that advising is extremely busy during enrollment, and appointments may be scarce, wait times may be long, and email and messages may take longer to receive a response. Please be patient and know that your advisors are working extremely hard during this time.
